the swedish label is back with a three tracker valvet studios production, featuring per hammars sound of dusty dub house. dixies dubb is a straight forward and warm cut with a good amount of chamber-sounding ingredients. argys take on the track is a timeless piece of dubby, stripped and sparkling techno. just as obvious as it is venturous. as the last track on the flip, we find severnaja, that takes us on a mission over an icy surface. the travelling bassline and overheated drums in symbiosis with the melody brings the listener to uninhabited places.

this is an album of deeply emotional music. it s not all heartfelt niceties and eye-welling moods though. rhythmic theory did after all come to light (or should that be dark) in the gloomy alleyways of uk soundsystem music begat from dubstep and all that other stuff. -creeper- is on hand to affirm that this is a record still steeped in true, stern moodiness, where a stalking sub line, some metallic percussion and an icy drone can still strike fear more than a thousand angry wobble basslines. it s worth noting how much attention has been given to shorter vignettes. as well as the aforementioned, cryptically titled -interlude-, -work of fiction- and -end (of forever)- both give insights into the places rhythmic theory cares to roam beyond the structure of a long form track. these are places where melancholic or downright ambiguous dispositions interplay with each other, from the synthetic to the earthly, the malevolent to the tender. in the end, even at its most monochromatic, nothing is black and white on rhythmic theory s debut album, and that s just fine with us.

drawing on a rich well of influences from sufi and shamanic african trance music, irish and eastern european folk music, to steve reich and philip glass and more contemporary electronica influences, their music is built around deceptively simple sounding ideas that are lent power through the use of repetition and rhythmic loops. they have been compared to both portico quartet and gogo penguin for the way in which they navigate the choppy waters between contemporary dance music and jazz.

following the recent release of so low, a compilation of early ‘80s synth, industrial and cold wave classics and undiscovered gems curated by optimo’s jd twitch aka keith mcivor, the vinyl factory are set to release specially commissioned remixes of two tracks on the 16-track compilation by rising uk producer powell and hamburg’s helena hauff. powell’s pneumatic sound is perfectly suited to ‘49 second romance’ by german minimalists p1/e, which he deftly deconstructs, while hauff adds glistening synths to belgian electro-industrial group the klinik’s ‘moving hands’ for a driving, nocturnal version.

we are very proud to present this new single on help! the a-side, gratitude, is a track recorded in 2014 by dj central in rubber studios, aarhus. if it wasnt for the support and encouragement of fellow regelbau-homies kasper skov and dj sports, this piece of energetic dancemusic wouldn t have seen the light of day. the long, vivid, ambient penta-tune on the 2nd face was recorded during same summer in amsterdam by ask your hands (tobias sachse, kaap, bobby van putten, dj sports and central). releases like this dont thread everybodys needle but we are gonna throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.

the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.
